How does wasting energy cause pollution?

As fossil fuels are burnt, gases are released into the atmosphere. These gases trap heat that would otherwise escape into space. This is called the "greenhouse effect". Other pollution from burning fossil fuels causes "acid rain". Acid rain can harm wildlife and buildings. If we can use less energy, these effects will be reduced.

An animated diagram shows a power station and a car both giving out emissions. Greenhouse gases above trap the heat. Other gases contaminate rain and cause acid rain.
